Hello Again!

I'm overjoyed to have found my long-lost blog, and am looking forward to connecting with a host of new readers and friends! Let me re-introduce myself (since a lot has changed since my last post)...

I'm Bekah, a single mother of 2 teen girls. Let me tell you upfront that my life gets crazy!

To pay the bills, I work with children with disabilities and their families. I'm good at it. Really good. I've also been at my current job for almost 14 years. My caseload is so demanding that it often interferes with being able to effectively parent my own kids (more on that later). I'm stressed more often than not, and even though I love what I do, it's beginning to weigh me down. So I'm starting to weigh my options. More on that later, too.

For fun, I read, write, sometimes crochet, hang with friends, and binge TV with my girls. We watched Friends all the way through at least 7 times. I love to take pictures, but not in an artsy way, just for reflection and documentation. I'm really into my planner. I watch endless videos about self-improvement, self-reflection, reaching an audience, empowering women, being your authentic self... you get the picture. I could sit in a coffee shop, just chatting and writing probably every day.

I'm on a huge internal overhaul. Vision boards, manifesting, prayer and Bible study, writing and journaling, thinking and talking- so get ready for it!

I'm pretty honest and tend to overshare. So if you like deep conversations with a complete stranger, you've come to the right place! Let's be friends :)

Mom...a Poem about Her

Yellow
Her favorite color
Brightened her wedding
And the afghans she
Crocheted until
Pain stilled her fingers

Yellow
Spring tulips
Summer daisies
Autumn mums now
Soften her headstone

Yellow
The fire of the sun
Bright and hot
In my heart, and
In my tears
When I am missing her

This post was inspired by a weekly prompt at Studio 30 Plus, a home for bloggers over 30!

Writing Workshop: My Heart Melted

Wow. I have not done a Mama Kat workshop, in like, FOREVER.
I really liked some of her prompts this week, because they helped me think about some little, yet significant moments in my life. The STUFF that makes life GOOD. So here goes...

The last time my heart melted was because...my oldest daughter showed me how much she loves me and is thinking of me in that little sweet heart of hers.

It was Christmas morning. The kids were giddily opening their stockings when someone realized that Santa had "forgotten" to put anything in my stocking. Oops. While Vivian, my youngest, was feeling sorry for me, Morgan said, "Mommy, there might be something in there. Look!"

To humor her, I up-ended the stocking. Into my lap fell a tiny pink crystal heart. My heart melted.

"Morgan, did you put this in my stocking? When?"

She came over and gave me a hug. "I put it there the other day, so on Christmas you would find it and have something to remember how much I love you."

And that, people, is good stuff.

Memes for Writing Inspiration

Last week I offerred links to some of my favorite crafting challenge sites. Today I have compiled some writing memes that I find fun and inspirational:

Wordzzle- create a story from a list of unrelated words
Views from Raven's Nest

Writer's Workshop- choose from various writing prompts each week; some are blog-specific, such as creating a vlog
Mama's Losin' It

I Comment Therefore I Am- creating a whole post from comments you have left on other blogs
Unknown Mami

The Poetry Bus- a different reader "takes the wheel" each week and provides the prompts
Totalfeckineejit

Random Dozen- you answer twelve random questions every week; great way to dig up some long-forgotten memories and stories
2nd Cup of Coffee

If you participate in other writing memes, we'd all love to know what they are and where to find them!

Wordzzle Week 122: Short fiction about teenagers

Today I am participating in a weekly meme called Wordzzle, hosted by Views from Raven's Nest . The task is to take a list of unrelated words and create a short paragraph that encorporates them all.

This week's list: gradual, eagle's nest, martyrdom, pizza, pugilist

The greasy, unkempt teenager took gradual, purposeful strides into the Eagle's Nest, the local kids' hangout. No hurry; she knew her predictable and popular younger sister would be congregating here after tonight's football game. Shooting slow, poisonous glances at the cheerleaders and jocks, her eyes finally landed on the object of her recent hostility. Like a pugilist, she backed the girl into a corner and assumed a wide stance. “Why did you tell Mrs. Bowman that I cheated on my chem final?” she growled. “I'll probably fail the class and have to take summer school. Which means I will be pissed at you all summer. Which means I will make your life a living hell. Does that sound like fun to you, huh, little sister?” The slight girl, unsurprised yet still shaken, darted out from the corner and made her way back to her table of friends. As she grabbed a slice of lukewarm pizza and slumped down in the booth, she resigned herself to a season of martyrdom.

I like this meme- it's fun, quick, and a great way to scratch that creative writing itch!
