Project 365: Week 30

Most of this past week is just not worth mentioning, much less photographing. It was rough, medically speaking. So let's just stick with Saturday, the only "keeper", and hope for better stuff all the way around this coming week!

Great day swimming with my college girlfriends and our families!

Book Review: The Talk-Funny Girl

The Talk-Funny Girl: A NovelThe Talk-Funny Girl: A Novel by Roland Merullo

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

One of the very best novels I have read in a long while. Vivid, unique characters struggle with more than you think they can handle... and then become stronger as time goes on. Great book about finding your own voice, trust, and healing. Highly recommended.

Book Review: Safe Haven by Nicholas Sparks

Safe HavenSafe Haven by Nicholas Sparks

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I enjoyed this book... right up until the very end. It had the usual Nicholas Sparks romance and fluff, along with some suspense and danger. The characters were lovable, flawed, and wrestling with their past. There were even a couple of cute kids for good measure. However, the ending had a somewhat supernatural twist that I didn't care for. It wasn't necessary to wrap up the story, and was just a little too hokey, even for Sparks.

Thankful Thursday 7/14/11

My gratitude for the week, as well as a post inspired by Mama Kat!

Plus, the purple (my fave color) envelope I used (recycled) held a very sweet pick-me-up card from my very sweet sister in law. I think I'll keep her!

Book Review: Feel Bad Education by A. Kohn

Feel Bad EducationFeel Bad Education by Alfie Kohn

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Really underscores the reasons I send my kids to a democratic, non-graded school. It openly questions everything from No Child Left Behind to everyday classroom strategies. A must-read for teachers, those becoming teachers, or people with kids in school or will be in school one day.

It was easy to understand and not filled with a lot of jargon- however, since it is a collection of the author's other works, some parts are repetitive
